Week 3 Fiji - 21 May 2017

Yadra Vinaka Kemuni Kece,

 Koro=Village

It has been a good week.  Nothing too crazy happening in the area of Rakiraki, but we have been putting in work!  The area lacks in the typical dense lush tropical vegetation seen around the more eastern parts of Fiji.  Its definitely unique though.  Our apartment is situated in the middle of downtown Raki, more like two blocks with stores all around the perimeter.  It is very convenient though to be able to just step outside and grab something if needed.  It is also very nice being able to see a lot of our church members and investigators in town.  Really helps strengthen our relationship with whoever it may be being able to stop and talk for a little.
This week we have a gentleman who seems like he is for sure going to get baptized.  He is a Golden investigator.  He is Rotuman and is such a genuine guy.  A man of very little words, but has told us he knows the Book of Mormon is true.  We also have two other kids that have been coming to church, but we just found out they are not members yet.  So this week we're taking a boat out to their island to teach them the lessons.  In all of the Koros the kids for the most part love the "Eldas."  They're all so nice and are very funny.  Speaking with them really helps my Fijian, for they are quick to correct me whenever necessary.  We also find that they inform other people within the Koro on who we are.  No more "Eh Kai Valagi" (hey white people).  Each Koro we go to differs from the others.  Whether its the attitude of the people towards us or relationship they have among each other.

This past week I have really been cracking down on my budgeting which has resulted in an interesting diet.  A lot of Chow and Tuna.  Not tired of it yet, but that day may come.  We don't get fed by members or anyone that often.  Which my companion says is not how it will be in the rest of my mission areas.  However when we do get a meal it is amazing.  The Fish is fresh as it gets.  I am getting betting at eating it, but I still get stabbed by a couple bones every time I eat it.  This past week I had my first "exchange" where you switch a companion with the zone leaders so they can evaluate how you're doing.  I went up to Loutoka this week to stay with Elder Gray and it was great!  It is a completely different vibe than Rakiraki.  Had a dinner at a members house.  She made us so much food, all of which was so Buka Waqa (really good).
So far so good!  A lot more has been going on but it is tough to remember it all on the spot in this internet cafe.

Have a great week!
Love,
Elda Richardson
