The Work - 23 Apr 2018

Bula Vinaka Taciqu kei Ganequ,

Didn't have much time to send an update last week, but things are going well.  It has been a lot of fun working with Elder Zenas. It has been tough adjusting back to the Fijian program, but I forgot how much I love working around Fijians.

We have had some amazing experiences in our area. One of which took place during some service.  We saw a group of Fijians working in front of some house the other day, so we went over to ask them if we could come back another day and help them out.  One lady wasn't too fond, she really didn't want to make us work, but we told them we were coming back the next day regardless.  We arrived there the next day, and it was just "Lo," the one lady who didn't want us to work.  We explained what we do as missionaries and she felt better about giving us some work.  After about 2-3 hours of clearing out her farm with machetes we had lunch and shared a message.  She started crying telling us how her husband had died the year before and how much it meant to her that we came to help her out. As I watched her cry it reminded me how important service was.  It's hard sometimes for us to show people how much we really care for them.  Genuine service is the best way to do that.  "People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care."

Working with my companion, Elder Zenas, has been a blessing.  He is a very hard worker and is someone that is truly spiritually in tune.  It has helped me realized how many tender mercies we encounter every day.

I read my patriarchal blessing the other day and it was just what I needed.  Reminded me of the divinity of my calling to Fiji, and it pumped me up to do some work.  It is so important to be confident in your calling as a missionary, if not you will find yourself backing out of opportunities to share a message.  Elder Zenas and I have been trying our best to get as many positive contacts as we can each day.  I have noticed that a lot of people have showed more love towards us and are now taking more time to talk with us when we see them.

Recently we have been building our relationships with the members so that they will begin to really trust us.  When the members trust us, they give us referrals, and those are the best types of investigators.  People seem to open up their hearts more when they know their friends sent us to them.  Has made the work more efficient and successful.

Have a great week everyone,
Much Love,
Elder Richardson
