Hello Everyone,
Hope everyone is doing alright back in the "land of stress". It has been another good week out here. This past week was the end of the transfer. A lot of new missionaries in the field and a lot being moved around Fiji. Not too crazy for me because I knew I wouldn't be going anywhere. It was really fun though to hear where all the missionaries were going, and all the new ones we were going to welcome into the zone.
This week when proselyting we tried to walk to new places in the village so we could find
some hidden houses. Often times Fijians will build their houses off to the side of the village making it a bit more difficult to find or see. We had great success with this as we found a lot of new investigators in these types of areas. I am still just about useless with my Fijian besides some phrases I am good at and my testimony which I try to deliver powerfully. It has been interesting to notice as each week passes I am a bit better at understanding what is being said during lessons and everyday conversations. Some people talk so fast or use another dialect of Fijian and at that point I am so lost. All Good Though!
Seemed as if this past week went by very slow. However I can't believe it has already been 6 weeks that I've been in Fiji. Halfway done with training and I am expected to be leading lessons in 5 more weeks. Yikes. Really puts some extra motivation into my studying. Reading more lately than I have ever in my life and I am hoping that this is a habit that can stick with me for a while. Today is Elder Dunn's, my companion, Birthday. Yesterday the Sisters made a nice meal for all of us at district meeting. Some Amazing fried chicken and excellent potato salad. 5 Star meal. Today after emails I am taking him anywhere he wants to eat and were going to go to town.
Little funny story. Yesterday we got off the bus heading to Loutoka and we see the same friendly gentlemen every week. So Elder Dunn offered his cake to them thinking they would respect the gesture and decline. Not the case. They took the cake from him which had two big number candles "2" and "0" then about 5 grown men started digging in with their hands. Was all gone in about 2 minutes. Afterwards one of the men walks up to us with a half eaten candle in his hand and asked us why it tasted so weird. We started laughing and told him they weren't for eating. He then said pointing to some old man, "well I ate the 2 and he ate the 0." Had a really good laugh from that. Had to share.
