New Man in Town (Week 8) - 2 Jul 2017

Bula Vinaka Kemuni Kece,
Another quick week in the books.  Big change this week!  We are now under the direction of President Higgins.  Wish I had the chance to know President Layton a bit more and study his "Use your Bible approach."  However, I am sure President Higgins will be just as great.  President Layton's last move before leaving the area was allowing open toed shoes.  Total game changer, but I will wait to see how Higgins feels about that before making an impulsive buy.
This past P-Day we had the chance to go to the BLK factory and take a tour.  For those of you who aren't to familiar with Rugby like myself, BLK is the company that makes majority of the Rugby jerseys.  It is inevitable in Fiji, if you don't know a thing about Rugby you are for sure going to learn.  The tour was great, and on the drive back we had the chance to see a goat pop out of the trunk in the car ahead of us and attempt to make an escape in the middle of the road.  All the Elders had a really good laugh at the sight of it.
We focused a lot on current investigators this week and trying to strengthen them, rather than bringing in new ones.  Had the chance to confront the two investigators that we had, but lost to the 7th Day Church.  Things seemed to be awkward when we would see them in the koro.  Friday night we went over and sat them down and told them how we still want to be friends and expressed our love for them.  Was good practicing that type of confrontation, something I need, and it really helped resolved the uneasiness between us.

Prior to this week, the Elders relationship with our Branch President/Bishop was very poor.  We would try to speak with him on matters and get insight from him.  He would rarely say a word to us and it felt like we were more enemies than friends.  President Ratu lives just below the Branch building and after 4 months in Rakiraki, Elder Dunn had still yet to be in his house.  That all changed this week.  We tried to show our love for the Branch, the members, and also him as our Bishop.  Elder Dunn and I went to go work in his tete (farm) and we really put in some hard work!  Definitely softened his heart.  After dinner at his house that night he seemed to be a whole new person.  Surprisingly he actually does laugh and smile. Looking forward to the effect this will have on the Branch and our Missionary work.
So it was a very good week and things are progressing. Had some new foods this week.  Stingray, which is very good and the meat looks very cool.  Waici Poki, rourou leaves some chow noodles and some tuna.  Amazing.  95% of the meals I have had out here are things I have never seen, heard of, or tasted before.  Loving it.
Au kila e dina na kosipeli oqo.  Kevaka keda wilika na Ai Vola i Momani ena vakaukauwataki keda.  Na Kalou solia vei keda na veika meda bulataka e dua vinaka bula ia e bibi meda muria na ivakaraitaki i Jisu.
Have a great week!
Love,
Elder Richardson
